A New South Wales man said winning the lottery was the perfect way to help move on from the horrific bushfires which forced him to evacuate his home.

In the last few days of 2019, Batemans Bay was plunged into apocalyptic conditions as blazes tore apart homes and forced residents to seek refuge at the beach.

This south coast resident’s home managed to survive the disaster and now he has an extra $2.5 million to help with the cool change.

“We didn’t personally lose our home but homes around us were destroyed and we were evacuated to the beach,” the man said, who was one of eight division one winning entrants from the Saturday Lotto.

“The town was black and red. It was frightening.

“This couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ll be able to take my wife on a really nice holiday.”

A whopping 155 Aussies also had division two combinations, winning $8814 each from a prize pool of more than $1.3 million.

In 2019, the Lotto created 203 millionaires across Australia – and this Saturday could be your chance.

Earlier this month, A Caloundra woman was lost for words after winning a massive $60 million with a division one entry in the Powerball draw.

When a Lott official phoned the Queensland woman, who asked to remain anonymous, she was at first speechless. Then she couldn’t contain her disbelief.

“I can’t believe it. Someone must be having me on.” she exclaimed.

“I need to double check this is real. I’m not sure I believe you.
