A discovered bug in Tron protocol could have led to one computer crashing the entire network. The bug was initially reported by TNW and originated from a vulnerability in connection with smart contracts.

A software engineer Danish Shrestha sent a notification to Tron explaining to them that the bug could lead to an attacker using just one computer to carry out “a distributed-denial-of-service attack on the TRON blockchain.”

“Using a single machine an attacker could send DDOS attack to all or 51% of the SR [super representative] nodes and render Tron network unusable or make it unavailable.”

The attacker only needs to spam the smart contracts executing on Tron blockchain and overwhelm the network leading to clogging of the CPU and memory available as a result the blockchain would be unusable. The software engineer was awarded $1,500 for discovering the bug. The issue was corrected by January 31.

Presently, Tron is trading at $0.024 after adding 1.77% to its value in the last 24-hours. It is the 11th largest crypto with a market capitalization of $1.6 billion and a 24 –hour trading volume of $722 million.
